James\u2019 novel from which the film is adapted. In this talk, E. Ann Kaplan looks at this unusual academic attention to a commercial film, accounting for it through the theoretical issues scholars drew out from the film. Ann Kaplan<\/strong> is Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies at Stony Brook University, where she also founded and directs The Humanities Institute. She has written widely on media, cinema, and women&#8217;s studies, and is the author of numerous books, including &#8222;Women in Film: Both Sides of the Camera&#8220;, &#8222;Women in Film Noir&#8220;, &#8222;Motherhood and Representation&#8220;, &#8222;Trauma and Cinema: Cross-Cultural Explorations&#8220; (co-edited with Ban Wang), &#8222;Feminism and Film, and Trauma Culture: The Politics of Terror and Loss in Media and Literature&#8220;.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\nAll Postgrads and Postdocs welcome.
