17th Annual Conference of the Women’s History Network

The general call for papers is now closed, but the conference organisers welcome additional paper or panel submissions which focus on the themes of the conference in the medieval period.

This conference explores women’s life cycle experiences from the medieval period onwards through a variety of cultural, political, economic and social contexts. There are a rich range of panel themes including:

Pregnancy and motherhood | Health, fitness and education | Marriage and family relationships | Employment and society | Feminism across generations | Memory, oral history and biography | Ageing, death and dying

Keynote speakers: Professor Lynda Coon, University of Arkansas; Professor Mary Beth Norton, Cornell University; Dr. Michael Roper, University of Essex

Please note that residential bookings must be made by 14 August 2008.

A significant number of generous bursaries are available to assist with the costs of registration, travel and accommodation for both speakers and non-speakers, thanks to grants from the Economic History Society, and the Royal Historical Society.

Postgraduates (UK, EU and non-EU nationals) and those on low incomes (below £16,000 a year) are eligible and are invited to apply by sending contact details and proof of status (e.g. stamped university letter) to Dr Annmarie Hughes, Department of Economic and Social History, University of Glasgow, Lilybank House, Bute Gardens, Glasgow, G12 8RT (a.hughes#arts.gla.ac.uk) by 14 June 2008.
