CfP: Daily Life of Women: An Encyclopedia from Ancient Times to the Present (Publication); DL: 20.05.2019

Last call for Contributors; Editors: Colleen Boyett, Mildred Diane Gleason, and Micheal Tarver

Short essays by: 20.05.2019

The editors of the forthcoming encyclopedia are seeking contributors to help finalize the project within the next two months. The four-volume encyclopedia is to be published by ABC-CLIO. All essays will be no longer than 1,000 words.

An entry list has been determined by the editors and publisher, with entries ranging from earliest societies to modern nations. Entry themes are: The Arts; Economics and Work; Family and Community Life; Recreation and Social Customs; and Religious Life.

Forgoing traditional A-Z entries, the encyclopedia will instead contain individual entries focusing on roles of women — such as Patrons, Artisans, Mystics, Guardians of Sacred Shrines, Academics, and Professionals – within specific societies.

Among the 35+ Societies included are Ancient Mesopotamia, Ancient Israel, Ancient India, Ancient and Early China, Classical Japan, Pre-Islamic Middle East, Byzantine Empire, Islamic Caliphate, Medieval Europe, West African Kingdoms, East African Kingdoms, Southern African Kingdoms, Feudal Japan, Dynastic China and Korea, Central Asian Empires, Americas before 1492, Ottoman Empire, Colonial Latin America, Colonial Canada and the United States, Russia and the Soviet Union, Modern East Asia, Modern West, Central and South Asia, Modern Sub-Saharan Africa, and Modern Australia and New Zealand.

Expressions of interest are welcome from graduate students, postdocs, professors, independent scholars, and public history professionals. In the way of compensation, contributors will have free online access to the e-book version of the four-volume project.

Simply send Micheal Tarver an email to mtarver@atu.eduwith the Society/Theme (Left Column) and the Daily Role (Right Column) for any entry you are interested in writing.
