Time: 07.03.2020
Proposals by: 31.01.2020

Assuming Gender are inviting abstracts for papers exploring the relationship between gender and activism for our International Women’s Day symposium on 7th March, 2020. Whilst International Women’s Day provides the opportunity to celebrate the social, economic, political and cultural achievements of women, it also prompts us to consider what work remains to be done in addressing systematic oppression and inequality. With this in mind, the organizers are welcoming proposals for papers exploring topics including, but by no means limited to:

  • Activism past and present
  • Feminist Activism
  • Queer Activism
  • Trans activism
  • Activism and race
  • Activism and intersectionality
  • Digital activism
  • Activism in visual culture
  • Activism and the literary text
  • Environmental activism

Proposed papers should be 15 minutes in length. Please send abstracts of no more than 300 words to Rosie Couch and Gareth Smith at gender@cardiff.ac.uk by January 31st. The organizers are also welcoming proposals for workshop-based activities. Please get in touch with the organizers on the same email address to discuss ideas.
