CfP: Rural Women’s issues (Event: 2014 Berkshire Conference 05/2014); DL: –

The Rural Women’s Studies Association (RWSA) (Web) would like to submit proposals for panels on rural women’s issues at the 16th Berkshire Conference on Women’s History will be held in Toronto on May 22-25, 2014. The Berkshire program committee is particularly looking for panels that cross national and generational boundaries. The 2014 conference theme is „Histories on the Edge,“ and proposals are due January 15, 2013. RWSA member Jenny Barker-Devine, whose work focuses on Midwestern American farm women in the Second Wave, has already suggested one panel topic: „Is There a Rural Feminism?“ This panel might explore the ways in which rural women have been largely excluded from academic feminist discourses over the past 40 years.

Anyone interested in presenting a paper on that or any other rural women’s history topic is encouraged to contact either Katherine Jellison (jellison@ohio.edu) or Linda Ambrose (lambrose@laurentian.ca). We will help interested parties connect with one another with the hope that RWSA may successfully contribute 3 or 4 panels to the 2014 Berkshire Conference program.
