CfP: Women’s Creativity around 1800 (Event: Ottawa), Deadline: 01.12.2008

One-day Workshop preceding the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association of University Teachers of German (CAUTG) at Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, 23-26 May 2009.

You are invited to submit proposals for 20-minute papers in English or German to be given at a one-day thematic workshop on all aspects of women’s creativity in the period around 1800. Foci of interest may include but are not limited to women’s literary productions in the context of contemporary (1750-1830) aesthetics, philosophy, and anthropology; innovative aspects of women’s contributions to theatre and visual arts; women’s self-definitions as writers and artists; gender in genre and media studies; and gender aspects of cultural networking and communication. The workshop is meant to encourage cultural-historical approaches to gender issues in the field of German Studies. A maximum of eight contributions will be selected.

Please email your proposal as an attachment (Word document or .rtf file, max. 600 words) no later than 1 December 2008. Please include your university affiliation and contact information in the e-mail to which you attach your proposal. Decisions will be announced by the end of January.

Although the workshop will take place outside the framework of the CAUTG Annual Meeting, participants are invited and encouraged to attend both events. Details on CAUTG membership and the Annual Meeting and may be found at www.cautg.org.
