The Schubert Research Center
The Schubert Research Center is dedicated to the study of the composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828) and the Viennese cultural life in the first half of the 19th century. In doing so, cultural, social and political developments central to the Habsburg Monarchy are foregrounded through broad interdisciplinary approaches. The aim is to uncover social networks, to highlight connecting and dividing factors across borders and disciplines, and, more generally, to understand the world in which Schubert and his contemporaries lived and worked in a more differentiated and comprehensive way than has been possible in Schubert research to date. With this topic, the commission complements the work at the Vienna office of the New Schubert Edition, which is primarily concerned with sources and the edition. (Web)
