Der Workshop widmet sich der Frage nach der Bedeutung von Objekten in den alltäglichen Inszenierungs- und mithin Konstitutionsprozessen von Geschlecht, die von der Geschlechtergeschichte seit Längerem in vielfältiger Weise und mit beachtlichem Erfolg mithilfe der Konzepte Doing Gender (nach Carol Hagemann-White) und Staging Gender (nach Gabriele Brandtsetter) untersucht werden. Inwieweit und mit welchem Erkenntnisgewinn lässt sich eine objektgeschichtliche Perspektive in diese Konzepte integrieren?

Lebenslauf ist – nach Martin Kohli – jene Dimension, in der sich Erwerbsarbeit zeitlich gliedert, sich entfaltet und ihre Grenzen findet. In dieser Vortragsreihe wollen wir das Verhältnis zwischen Arbeit und Lebenslauf zur Diskussion stellen. Arbeit wird dabei nicht nur als Erwerbsarbeit im engeren Sinne verstanden. Beispielhaft sollen einzelne Lebensphasen (Kindheit – Erwerbsarbeitsphase – Alter) ins Zentrum des Interesses gerückt und Fragen wie die folgenden erörtert werden: Welche Formen von Arbeit und Nicht-Arbeit gelten für welche Lebensphase als normal? Wie variieren solche Muster in unterschiedlichen nationalen und kulturellen Kontexten? Wie gestaltet sich die lebenslaufspezifische Arbeitsteilung zwischen den Geschlechtern?
Die Vortragsreihe entstand im Zusammenhang des Interdisziplinären Dialogforums „Arbeit im Lebenslauf“ der Universität Wien, das seit Jänner 2010 aktiv ist.

We welcome submissions from scholars, students, activists, and workers, artists, mothers and others who work or research in this area. Cross-cultural, historical and comparative work is encouraged. We encourage a variety of types of submissions including academic papers from all disciplines, workshops, creative submissions, performances, storytelling, visual arts and other alternative formats. Building upon the Rich’s crucial distinction between mothering and motherhood the conference will explore how scholars and activists challenge normative motherhood and develop new experiences, practices, identities, meanings, activism, ideologies and policies for empowered mothering.

We invite scholars and activists to join in an exploration of the methods, possibilities, challenges, and dangers of doing LGBT/queer  scholarship, activism, pedagogy, and curriculum in a transnationalized and technologically mediated world. We want to address the many challenges of understanding and responding to the complexly lived lives of queer subjects, as they are shaped by local and global upheavals and opportunities. What does the ‘transnational’ mean? How are queer lives rendered visible and legible and affectively accessible? What matrices of power make  some queer figures more visible than others? What new forms of scholarship and activism emerge as people, images, ideas, and capital move in rapid, uneven, and complex ways across national borders? How might practices of kinships, however tense or contingent, happen? How does, or should, the transnational turn shape our pedagogies and curricula? And how do we connect and collaborate as scholars and activists across the globe? These are messy knowledges, nuanced knowledges, framed by the local and the global in complicated and often surprising ways.

This year’s theme is „Women narrating their lives and action“. The intellectual impulse for the fifth feminist course in the seminar on Feminisms in transnational perspective comes from Hannah Arendt’s statement that “lives without words and action are dead for the world”. Extensive scholarship has established links between gender and genre in women’s (auto)biographical discourses, while feminist theorizing has offered political and activist perspectives on the wider socio-cultural frame of positing, producing, communicating, and manipulating women’s selfrepresentations. The exploration of autobiographical ethics and „first-person plural subjectivities“ involved in national identity formation in turbulent times and politically charged contexts has been particularly fruitful. Now we may ask, how do the contexts and communitarian vocabularies of selfhood intervene in pervasive  eoliberal structures of power/knowledge and capitalist reification in the transnational negotiation of feminisms?

Jointly with departments of the Central European University (CEU), CRC organizes one-week course design sessions in Budapest for university teachers during which they can access human and material resources of the CEU, work in the library, consult with colleagues, purchase books, and participate in round-table discussions/workshops on course development issues.

This CRC workshop will be structured around the extensive Visual History Archive of the USC Shoah Foundation, which contains interviews with 52,000 people: ww.library.ceu.hu/databases/shoah.html. 

The CEU Library has recently been given access to this remarkable resource, and the CRC workshop will explore ways in which this database can be useful in designing university courses. Participants will be able to consult with CEU faculty in Jewish Studies and Gender Studies. During the session they will also have the opportunity to use the Visual History Archive. University teachers of history, sociology, anthropology and gender studies are encouraged to apply. 
NOTE: Applicants are requested to submit an 800-word statement of intention on how they are planning to use the Visual History Archive in their teaching.
