‚Women and Circus‘: An Interdisciplinary Conference
Date: 27 – 28 November 2009
Place: Zagreb, Croatia
In late November 2009, The Festival of Contemporary Circus will be organized in Zagreb, Croatia. Already for the 5th year, the festival attracts great attention from audiences as well as media. The organizers are trying very hard to enable development of the „circus scene“ on the margins of „Western Europe“ and have, by now, successfully met the expectations. Apart from ensuring quality artists and performers, the festival aims to investigate different aspects of social life, so that every year new „theme“ is being questioned, discussed and represented through performances. Last year’s festival was dedicated to the notion of „family“. This year we are focusing on woman’s position, representation and role in the circus arts and/or in the circus community. Beside searching, shaping and re-shaping the position
of women through the performance, we decided to organize an accompanying two-day conference on which „Women and the Circus“ would be widely discussed by researchers and students from various fields as well as female artists
who would share and debate their experience as performers.
There is no fee to participating the conference. To contributors, accommodation, food and travel expenses will be covered by the organizers. Continue reading
