Jana Dolecki presents her current research on the representation of nation and national identity in Croatian institutional theatre during the wartime and in the context of the acute nation-building processes from 1991 to 1995. The focus lays on the theatrical presentations of women figures as symbols or allegories of nation.
The lecturer introduces the most relevant examples of theatre productions featuring female characters created in different historical periods. This characters were marked by certain outbreaks of national narratives, structural and process-related elements of (re)constructing the notion of Croatianhood in the early 1990s. This development is outlined in the presentation.
