Venue: Univ. of Southampton
Proposals by: 03.03.2024
Queer methodologies emphasise the value of collating affective stories, non-linear narratives, and visual data in order to understand the experiences of diverse queer communities, and as a strategy for radical social transformation. To understand how we can work towards this potential, the organizers invite proposals for papers, workshops and presentations which share: exploration of, and strategies for developing queer methodologies | the forms we use to retell or record the stories created and curated through queer methods | the audiences and the afterlife of these creative research data | strategies for embedding knowledge exchange and engagement beyond the academy | and formats for (and challenges of) non-traditional reporting and archive curation.
Creating and curating stories of queer transformation welcomes proposals for: traditional 15/20-minute paper presentations | workshops (up to 90mins) | digital exhibition of audio/visual work. The organizers are happy to discuss their capacity for hosting other formats of presentation if your proposal does not appear to fit in one of these three categories.
This one-day event will be free to attend and is open to those undertaking queer research projects, including policy makers and other practitioners whose work reaches across, and subverts, disciplinary boundaries. The event will include artists whose live practice will produce an archive of discussions and presentations from the day.
Please submit proposals of no more than 300 words by Sunday 3rd March 2024, to queertransformations@soton.ac.uk. The organizers will communicate the selection of proposals by 18th March 2024. Registration info and speakers will be announced on the website in April.
This conference is hosted by Lizzie Reed, Laura Harris, and Avi Boukli from the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology at the Univ. of Southampton. To contact the conference team please email queertransformations@soton.ac.uk.
