Gender, religion and culture: Politics, policy and human rights in the European context
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in the Global Women’s Studies Programme (GWSP), School of Political Science and Sociology, National University of Ireland, Galway.
The position is a fixed term 16 month post available from 1st June 2009.
The GWSP in the School of Political Science and Sociology is a new departure in women’s and gender studies research, teaching, and civic engagement at NUI Galway. GWSP academic staff members are also part of the School’s Gender, Globalisation and Empowerment Research Cluster. Cognisant that globalisation and related global issues pose tremendouschallenges for the future of democratic governance and enjoyment of human rights, the GWSP focuses on the ways in which women and men experience globalising forces and trends differently, including migration and cultural difference, economic crises, transnational crime, religious fundamentalisms, and disease pandemics.
The GWSP aims to deepen knowledge and understanding of the gender-specific aspects of these and other global issues, especially in response to multiple and intersectional inequalities, exclusions and human rights concerns that arise in each context. Toward this end, the GWSP is committed to undertaking academically rigorous, evidence-based, cross-disciplinary research, which makes a substantial contribution to public debate and policy formation and is sensitive to the gender dimensions of timely challenges linked to globalisation.
This Postdoctoral Researcher post will contribute to the development of the GWSP research programme with a particular focus on the thematic area of: Gender, religion and culture: Politics, policy and human rights in the European context. The successful applicant will be part of a small focused research team in the GWSP and will play a leadership role in developing the GSWP research programme in line with international standards.
Starting salary: €40,578 per annum
