Wars have characterized and deeply influenced contemporary history, from the colonial wars of the Nineteenth Century, through the two world wars, the „cold-war“ with its many „hot“ crises, the conflicts in South-East Asia, the Arab-Israeli wars, to the ethnic conflicts in the Balkans and in Africa and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Conflicts have not only modified the geo-political order of local areas, continents and of the entire world; they have also caused deep and long-lasting social and economic transformations and influenced the mental and cultural dimension of those States that were directly involved in the wars as well of those that were mere spectators of the conflict.

On the occasion of the centennial of the outbreak of WWI, the second issue of the online review of contemporary history «Percorsi storici» will focus on the issue of „war“. Read more (Web)
