Klicktipp: Rural films accessible at the ERHFA (Portal and Database)

European Rural History Film Association (ERHFA) (Web)

The ERHFA Online-Portal (Web) provides access to more than 200 films featuring different aspects of agriculture and rural life in Europe.

The Online-Portal is maintained by the ERHFA and contains a selection of films which are catalogued in the database (Link) of the ERHFA. This database is a working tool of the institutional members of the ERHFA. It provides an overview over the film production on rural Europe in the 20th century.

At the Online-Portal, thematic collections indicate the variety of topics which are covered in the so far digitised films. For example, you can find films about Animals and men as working companions, Mechanisation and motorisation (Link) or Potatoes – production and consumption (Link).

Additionally, films are grouped by the institutions which make them accessible:

  • Archives of Rural History, Bern, Switzerland (Web)
  • Zentrum Agrarische Geschiedenis, Leuven, Belgium (Web)
  • Frisian Film Archive, Leuwaarden, The Netherlands (Web)
  • Médiathèque Valais – Martigny, Switzerland (Web)
  • The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, Hilversum (Web)
  • SRF, Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen, Zürich, Switzerland (Web)
  • Zentrum elektronische Medien, Bern, Switzerland (Web)

Films can also be found through quick and advanced search requests and the results are exportable as CSV or PDF files (Web) .
