CFP: Religious Women and Confinement/Claustration (Event: Western Society for French History), Deadline: March 5, 2009

We are co-organizing a panel for the Western Society for French History on religious women and confinement/claustration. Topics could include the theological/legal rationale for claustration, the application of such regulations to individual communities, the extent to which such regulations impacted women’s lives, etc. We are especially interested in papers that focus on late Medieval or Modern France or French-speaking territories.

If you are interested in participating, please send an abstract and c.v. as e-mail attachments by March 5, 2009.

Portal: Spanish version of „Mapping the World“ – Database launched!

‘Mapa del Mundo’, the Spanish-language version of ‘Mapping the World’, the online database of women’s information services and centers, is now online. Launched February 1, 2009.
Mapa del Mundo makes the resources of more than 400 women’s libraries, archives, and information, documentation and resource centers in 132 countries accessible to Spanish speaking audiences. The database is an initiative of the International Information Centre and Archives for the Women’s Movement (IIAV) in Amsterdam.
Mapa del Mundo has been developed in response to requests from women in Latin America. The initiative grew out of the Know How Conference in Mexico in 2006. One of the aims of the conference was to “found a Latin American network of information centers and libraries on women’s and gender studies”.
