Does it ever feel like you have no free time? In this talk, Helen Hester will share key ideas from the book „After Work: A History of the Home and the Fight for Free Time“, published in the summer of 2023, that she co-wrote with Nick Srnicek (Web). „After Work“ explores how unpaid home/work takes up increasing parts of our lives and how repeated efforts to reduce it have been challenged and reversed. It looks at how domestic work has shifted over the last century and imagines new possibilities for the future, uncovering the abandoned ideas of anti-housework visionaries and sketching out a path towards real free time for all.

Helene Hester is a Professor of Gender, Technology and Cultural Politics at the Univ. of West London. She researches techno feminism, sexuality studies, and theories of social reproduction. She has written „Beyond Explicit: Pornography and the Displacement of Sex“ (2014) and edited „Fat Sex: New Directions in Theory and Activism“ (2015), among numerous other publications. She is a member of the international feminist collective Laboria Cuboniks, who co-wrote the Xenofeminist Manifesto.
