Female Labour Migration in European History (FeMig.Lab) (Web)
Time: 24.06.2025, 16:30-18:00 Uhr CET
Venue: virtual space – via Berlin
Although labour migration has significantly shaped 20th-century Europe, female perspectives remain largely marginalized in collective memory and education. The transnational project FeMig.Lab (Web) aims to highlight the overlooked intersections of women’s, migration, and labour history and their impact on present-day structures of inclusion and discrimination.
In this online event, we will explore participatory public history approaches to integrate the experiences and agencies of female migrant workers throughout the 20th’s century Europe into educational and exhibition programs. Together with Vũ Vân Phạm, Tina de Gendt and Gabriela Nicolescu, we’ll showcase oral history, space-, object- and picture-based storytelling, grassroot heritage, exhibition and graphic novel app projects – each offering unique ways to represent and engage with different aspects of European Female Labour Migration History.
We invite you to join us in a conversation about democratizing European remembrance:
– How can diverse communities and especially marginalized people be better involved in negotiating public narratives?
– How can we ensure that we are dealing responsibly with the representation of personal stories?
– What does ‘participation’ truly mean and entail in the practice of public history projects?
Join us to discover inspiring projects and engage in a dialogue about inclusive public history in Europe. Please register here (Web). The registration link will be sent to registered participants shortly before the event.
