The Center for Urban History of East Central Europe in Lviv (Zentrum für Stadtgeschichte Ostmitteleuropas), Ukraine and the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies of the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada announce a conference on social control and sexuality in the cities of Eastern and Central Europe during the long nineteenth century with a special focus on the practices and discourses of the „deviant“. The conference is co-sponsored by the Center for Austrian Studies, University of Minnesota. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: homosexuality, prostitution, sex crimes, „crimes of passion“, and white slaving.
