In Belgrade in the 1960s, in the heart of communist Yugoslavia under Tito, four teenage girls – Doda, two Ljiljas, and Nena – formed one of the world’s first female rock bands: Sanjalice (“The Dreamers”). In the midst of a conservative environment and under the watchful eye of “guardians of public morality” who accused them of spreading a rebellious spirit, they held their own on stage, on an equal footing with male bands. They took the Yugoslav music scene by storm, became celebrated stars, and yet surprisingly decided to break up the band.
This film tells their story from their own perspective.
