The second PhD Course offered by the EU-funded project “FEMCIT: Gendered Citizenship in Multicultural Europe: The Impact of Contemporary Women’s movements” will focus on intersectional perspectives in relation to gendered citizenship.
The aim of this course is to explore the concept of intersectionality by simultaneously focusing on its theoretical, methodological and political aspects. Intersectionality is a contested and complex concept and its usage varies in different geographical and historical settings. What unites most theorizations on this concept is an overarching interest in understanding the complexities of social hierarchies, power relations and multiple inequalities. We welcome applications from students from disciplines across the humanities and social sciences, but expect students to be working on research projects aiming to apply intersectional perspectives. Small group work sessions are arranged to discuss the individual PhD projects. These discussions will be based on papers submitted in advance.
